УФС irradiator with the 254 / 365 nm selector

Inspection of chromatograms under ultraviolet light. A fluorescent 365 nm lamp and a bactericidal-mercury 254 nm lamp cover both classical UV-imaging modes of TLC: fluorescent compounds appear as coloured spots on a dark background (365 nm), and UV-absorbing compounds appear as dark spots on a UV-indicator plate (254 nm).

Applications

§ A — DESCRIPTION

Description

In chromatogram inspection:

  • compounds fluorescent at 365 nm appear as coloured spots on a dark background;
  • compounds absorbing 254 nm UV appear as dark spots on a TLC plate containing a UV indicator (F254).

The irradiator is a stand-alone UV-imaging tool for labs that do not need automated densitometry: the plate is read visually by the operator, with results documented by hand or by an external camera.
