02Silica gel
KSK column-grade wide-pore silica gel — the standard sorbent for preparative and analytical column chromatography. Ten fractions from 15–40 μm (high-resolution work) up to 315–500 μm (fast loading of large volumes) let the user match grain size to the separation goal.
§ A — DESCRIPTION
KSK column silica is the same chemically pure wide-pore adsorbent used in TLC, only with a coarser grain optimised for eluent flow through a packed column. The polar surface chemistry and silanol-driven selectivity are preserved, which makes it natural to transpose a method developed on a TLC plate onto a column without changing the adsorbent.
Choice of fraction trades resolution against flow rate and analyte load: the finer the grain, the higher the resolution and the slower the run. Fine fractions (15–40, 50–100 μm) suit analytical and flash columns; medium fractions (100–315 μm) classic gravity columns; coarse fractions (315–500 μm) fast pre-concentration or filtration. Supplied on order.
